1198 posts · Joined 2006. #13 · Jul 8, 2010 (Edited) 325 and 330 aren't that different (I've had both). Both have the excellent M54 engine, 330 just has larger cylinder capacity. 330 does have a little more torque and acceleration but the 325 never felt inadequate in any way.
Those are basically the opposite ends of the evap system, but if there is s leak somewhere in between, then a smoke test would probably be the best way to find it. E46 ///M3vert. Since these cars are more reliable than the non-M models and older models, there isn't much 'repairs' to spend on. Maintenance like oil change is $200 at the dealer or $12-16 per quart of motorsport oil Castrol 10w-60. Tires are even more expensive since they ride on 19s with wider/staggered fitment.

One of the most common problems I see on the 330 is that it causes the owner to do random and unnecessary fix and maintenance to it using cheap or ebay parts, resulting in it breaking in the process. Then it causes the owner to blame BMW for poor engineering.

itscoo2pyopants. 960 posts · Joined 2006. #2 · Apr 19, 2008. When your car goes into limp mode, immediatley pull over and turn it off. Sometimes it can clear if you restart it a couple times. If it doesnt clear you'll need to go to a dealership/independent shop to clear it out.
41 posts · Joined 2007. #1 · Jun 1, 2007. If you have the window down on my 330ci you can here a metallic rattle from under the car when going over bumps - as if an exhaust heat shield were loose. I have had the car up on the ramp and the exhaust is fine and there are no other obvious problems. The subframe also looked fine.
The most common is perhaps the Style 135 MV2 alloy wheel, similar to that used on the later E46. But an optional split-rim style 108, the “Composite Star spoke” wheel was quite often specced
Hello E46Fanatics, I'm new to the Forums. I recently purchased a 2003 BMW 330i that I knew had a few problems. The big one was, it wouldn't pass Smog. I took it to BMW and had them run a series of tests. These are the codes that it returned: 0000E9 - DME: Catalytic-converter efficiency, bank 1.
e46 M3 engine problems. I took my car in for service thinking it was a belt issue with a squeal on cold start and when driving only to find out that I have a bad 'thrust bearing' :censor: The shop told me they wouldn't do the job and to find another shop to do this repair. Basically the guy came back and said my whole engine is shot.

Without a question this is true of BMW’s, especially sportier models such as the 335i, 340i, M3, M4, M5, etc. Standard maintenance may add up quickly and become overwhelming for unaware owners.
