2014Ford Focus ST - what does r/cars think? Recently Ford has been cutting prices on '14 Focus Sts like crazy in my area and have a few nice incentives. I'm in the market for a new car and want to drive something thats fun, practical, and at least a bit economical. The ST seems to check all those boxes according to what I've read and watched

In2003 there were 4 engine options depending on the model of MK1 focus, they are as follows from worst engine to best (reliability wise); 1.) 2.0L SOHC SPI - This stands for split port induction, these engines have issues with dropping valve guides around the 80K mark. 2.) 2.0L DOHC Zetec - This engine is reliable, I have 204k on mine with

Poorreliability and performance. 2012 Focus spent $22K new, has 37,000 miles and the transmission needs to be rebuilt, Ford is covering the repair. Passenger window motor is gone and needs to be
Oneof the leading problems found with Ford Focus reliability is a defective PowerShift transmission. Drivers may notice difficulty stopping the vehicle or a delay in acceleration. Other reports include the car: Jerking. Slipping. Shuddering. Bucking. Having difficulty changing gears. Delaying when shifting.
Overallreliability based on previous 3 model years (, 2015): Toyota Corolla: 85/100. Mazda 3: 81/100. Honda Civic: 46/100. Both Mazda and Toyota get 5/5 for predicted reliability of the new models. (Unsurprising.)Fordhas some build quality issues, but the 2.0 Ecoboost is a very solid engine. Ford uses it/variants of it in most of their lineup. There are two primary issues with boosted engines: knock and pre-ignition. Ford utilizes very robust ECU logic to make on-the-fly adjustments which negates knock extremely well.First as we’ll discuss in more detail below, Ford charges surprisingly little for the ST upgrades. Second, refinement is worthy of a mainstream $30,000+ car. Third, fuel economy is much better than with the most direct competitor. The MazdaSpeed3 has EPA ratings of 18 mpg city, 25 highway. The Focus ST does far better, with guilt-free EPA
2017Focus Issues. I have had my 2017 focus for a little over two years. After having it for a while, it began to shudder while driving and i took it in to get repaired at the ford garage (have a warranty on it, but I did buy it used). I believe it was an issue with the clutch, and they replaced the necessary parts.
Thetrans is fixed, it took 10 minutes, and I am just in shock that someone left an 8mm socket on the transmission, and that was blocking the linkages. I wish I was kidding. That’s all it was. An 8 mil. Edit: 8 mil, the guy thought it was a 10 off the top of his head, it’s an 8. Here’s a link to some pics of the perpetrator.WAvYn1.
