After a very short journey first thing in the morning, when restarting the car ,the glow plug light flashes on some occasions and on one occasion car went into "limp Home" mode. But here it is in condensed form: 1) many owners of 2003-and-earlier TDIs have modified the EGR cycle using VAGCOM software. 2) some owners have removed the EGR completely and replaced it with a RacePipe. 3) some owners have disconnected the vacuum line that activates the EGR valve.
There is no performance issue at all. scanned the car and the code was stored P2002 something to do with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Trap, Bank 1 - Efficiency Below Threshold/Malfunction it comes with Glowplug light flashing or sometimes with ENgine light. But there is no impact on car performance.
Remove both hoses pictured below (red arrow is for a later step, bleeding the coolant system). Attach a drain hose to one of the hoses and press a garden hose against the other. Once it's clean, flush it with distilled water. Then remove the oil cooler hose pictured above and flush it the same way as the heater core. Replacing requires draining coolant, removing the intercooler and then you remove the TB and EGR valve as assembly. Not clear if intercooler could just be unbolted, decoupled from TB and suspended, w/o requiring coolant flush. The EGR 2 is one below the turbo. They call it "erg cooler", as it is an entire assy with EGR valve built into it.
